DANIEL MARCHAND

...was born in Trois-Rivières, Québec, and now lives in Ottawa, Canada

After a successful Canadian Foreign Service career that took him to Europe, the USA, Africa and the Middle East, he turned to photography. He specializes in Nature and Landscape photography. A photographic artist with interests in landscape ecology, Daniel Marchand looks at both the biotic and abiotic factors and at how they interact to shape the environment we live in. His practice investigates landscape as a record of time, with particular attention to geological surfaces shaped by retreating ice. I am interested in how exposed rock becomes both evidence and metaphor: a surface newly visible yet carrying histories that precede human memory.
